Full time, Fixed term for 15 months
Salary range: starting at £20,400 and rising to £23,619 per annum
You will work on a Medical Research Council(MRC) Discovery Award funded project aimed at assessing how pyramidal cell and interneuron neuronal ensembles in the prefrontal cortex are recruited during appetitive conditioning. Your role is to support the post-doctoral researcher in the laboratory by conducting behavioural experiments using transgenic mice that express GFP in behaviourally-activated neurons. Thus, applicants with experience in behavioural testing using rodent models would be at an advantage. Additionally, you will be responsible for managing transgenic mice colonies (e.g. genotyping, recordkeeping) and performing surgeries. You should be motivated, work independently, and committed to work in a fast-paced and competitive research setting. Excellent technical and organisational skills, and the ability to work with other members of the laboratory are essential.
The laboratory (http://www.sussex.ac.uk/psychology/koyaensemblelab/) is based in newly refurbished labs within the Neuroscience Center, which forms part of a vibrant neuroscience research community on campus (http://www.sussex.ac.uk/sussexneuroscience/). The University of Sussex campus is located just 10 minutes away from the famous seaside resort city of Brighton.
Informal enquiries may be made to Dr. Eisuke Koya (email: e.koya@sussex.ac.uk).
