Valued at $5,000 or $10,000 NZD, this scholarship contributes directly to tuition fees for one academic year and is awarded on the basis of academic excellence.
About the Tongarewa Scholarship
This scholarship reflects the university’s commitment to its international student community. It is open to applicants who are newly admitted to the university and are paying full international tuition fees. The funds are applied toward tuition after the final course withdrawal deadline of the trimester in which the award is made (typically two weeks into the term).
In addition, recipients are guaranteed a place in one of the University’s Halls of Residence, provided they submit a valid accommodation application before the deadline.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered, applicants must:

Be international students paying full international fees

Be entering:

The first year of an undergraduate degree, or
-
A postgraduate programme (Master’s by coursework or research)
You are not eligible if:

You completed secondary school in New Zealand
-
You completed the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) or Foundation Studies programme at the university
-
You are a Study Abroad or Twinning student from a partner institution
-
You are in your second year of the same degree programme at Victoria University of Wellington
