About the Scholarship
Offered by Chongqing University in partnership with the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC), this scholarship supports the growing global demand for Chinese language teachers and promotes the international spread of Chinese language education. It is open to both aspiring and in-service teachers.
You can apply for:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in International Chinese Language Education
- Non-degree programs in Chinese Language and Literature or Chinese Language Study

- Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages
- Chinese Language Study (Non-degree)
- Chinese Language and Literature (One-Semester Program)
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid ordinary passport
- Have no criminal record and abide by Chinese laws and Chongqing University regulations
- Be in good physical and mental health, and maintain a strong academic and behavioral record
- Show interest in Chinese language education
- Be aged 16–35 as of September 1, 2025
- In-service Chinese teachers may apply up to age 45
- Bachelor’s degree applicants should be under 25
Required Documents
- Passport photo page (scanned copy)
- Valid HSK and HSKK score reports (within 2 years)
- Reference letter from recommending institution
- Highest diploma and official transcript (for degree applicants)
- Two academic reference letters (Master’s applicants)
- Proof of employment and recommendation (for in-service teachers)
- Certified guardian documents (if under 18)
- Foreigner Physical Examination Form with lab results
- Non-criminal record certificate
- Personal statement (max 500 words)
- Study/work certificate (if currently enrolled or employed)
- Additional documents as required by the Chongqing University application system

- RMB 3,000/month (Master’s students — funded for 2 years only)
Duration of Award
- Master’s Degree: 2 years of funding (3-year program in total)
- Bachelor’s Degree: 4 years
- One-Year Study Program: 11 months
- One-Semester Study Program: 5 months
