Masters Scholarships in Hispanic Studies
The Department of Hispanic Studies is looking for outstanding students interested to pursue MA in Hispanic studies
at the University of Warwick .
The successful candidates will join both a vibrant postgraduate body in Hispanic Studies, Comparative American Studies, and the Sub-Faculty of Modern Languages, and a very strong interdisciplinary faculty grouping of researchers.
Applicants should normally have a good first degree or equivalent in a relevant field. They may apply for either of our two 1-year Masters programmes .
The following are the study options:
MA by Research (involving dedicated supervision and a 40,000-word thesis);
MA for Research (involving a theory module, co-taught across Modern languages;
directed study or relevant taught modules; and a 20,000-word thesis).

Applicants should send both a complete curriculum vitae, including the names and contact details of two academic referees, and a covering letter of not more than two pages describing the proposed area of study and the approach to be followed, to the Postgraduate Secretary Caroline Parker, Sub-Faculty of Modern Languages, Room H243 Humanities, University of Warwick, Coventry CV4 7AL by Monday, 21st April 2014, 12 noon local time. If they have not already done so, short-listed candidates will also be required to submit a separate application for admission to Warwick University's Graduate School, via the University's on-line system.

Hispanic Studies at Warwick
Hispanic Studies is an exciting new development at the University of Warwick. Established in autumn 2012 with the appointments of a Professor, Associate Professor (Reader), and Assistant Professor, the department is committed to high-level, interdisciplinary research on the literatures, histories, and cultures of the Hispanic world. Particular strengths lie in nineteenth- and twentieth-century Spain, Portugal, Galicia, and the Caribbean, and research currently focuses on issues of identity, memory, and cultural exchange (further details on our research specialisms are available at:

The department sits within the Faculty of Arts and also the Sub-Faculty of Modern Languages, allowing collaborative links with other language departments as well as with the Language Centre. Hispanic Studies has close links with the distinguished Warwick School of Comparative American Studies. It is also integrated within the Humanities Research Centre, which can provide research funding, host conferences, workshops, and public lectures, receive academic visitors, sponsor fellows, and coordinate research initiatives. The University Library is investing in enhanced Hispanic Studies provision and the IT infrastructure is extensive, with direct access to electronic databases, bibliographies, and numerous on-line publications. The University also maintains a dedicated Research Support Service, which assists external funding applications, encourages bids through its own Research Development Fund, funds strategic partnership initiatives, and - via its Institute of Advanced Study - promotes international collaborative research projects.
