The MAX DELBRÜCK CENTER FOR MOLECULAR MEDICINE (MDC) is a biomedical research institute dedicated to interdisciplinary research in the areas of Medical Systems Biology, Function and Dysfunction of the Nervous System, Cardiovascular and Metabolic diseases, and Cancer. As a member of the Helmholtz Association of National Research Centers, the MDC is funded by the Federal Government of Germany and the Senate of Berlin. BIMSB aims to integrate the levels of gene regulatory control into comprehensive and predictive models that elucidate their functioning in health and disease. BIMSB is currently expanding and will move to a dedicated research building in the center of Berlin in the near future.

PostDoctoral Research Fellow (f/m) in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology

The Pombo lab studies the interplay between gene regulation and genome architecture, with the aim of defining rules and principles of genome function by integrating multiple parameters, from the local action of transcription factors and RNA polymerases to long-range chromatin looping events that connect regulatory DNA sequences with the genes they regulate, to how whole chromosomes are positioned within cell nuclei. We are based at the Berlin Institute for Medical Systems Biology (BIMSB), one of the four research areas of the Max Delbrueck Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC).

Description:
The Pombo lab is looking for an outstanding postdoctoral research fellow with a background in bioinformatics, biostatistics or computational biology with an interest in studying long-range chromatin contacts and gene regulation in mammalian cells. The candidate should have experience in analysing next-generation sequencing data, and will take a leading role in developing algorithmic tools to analyze “Genome Architecture Mapping (GAM)” data, a novel technology recently developed in the Pombo lab to map the 3-dimensional structure of the genome, which is orthogonal to 3C technologies (http://www.fasebj.org/content/30/1_Supplement/99.3.short). The succesful candidate will work collaboratively within an international and interdisciplinary research team of molecular and cellular biologists, bioinformaticians and physicists to to design analyses and to test specific biological hypotheses.

Requirements:

  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology or a related discipline
  • Relevant experience in the analysis of next-generation-sequencing data (DNA/RNA-seq, ChIP-seq or other)
  • Experience in the analysis of 3C-based methods (3C, 4C, 5C,
