The University of Sheffield is pleased to offer three Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust Master’s Scholarships for eligible international fee-paying students beginning their studies in September 2025.
The University is deeply committed to international development, with a key focus on enhancing global impact and improving lives through meaningful international collaborations—both locally and worldwide.
As part of this commitment, the scholarships are made possible through a partnership between the University of Sheffield, the Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust, and the Sheffield Institute for International Development.
Eligibility Criteria for the University of Sheffield Allan and Nesta Ferguson Scholarship 2025
To be considered for the Allan and Nesta Ferguson Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
Academic Requirements
Hold an offer for one of the following eligible Master’s programs at the University of Sheffield for the 2025/26 academic year:

International Development MA
-
Environmental Change and International Development MSc
-
International Development (Masters in Public Health) MPH
-
International Law and Global Justice LLM
-
International Political Economy MA
-
Global Journalism MA
-
International Public and Political Communication MA
Fee & Funding Status
-
Be classified as an overseas student for tuition fee purposes.

Self-fund your studies (i.e., you must not receive funding from a research council, government, private enterprise, charity, or any other organization).

This scholarship cannot be combined with any other funding from the University of Sheffield or external sources.
Study & Visa Conditions

Must enroll full-time at the University of Sheffield in September 2025 (this scholarship cannot be deferred).

Successfully meet any conditions attached to your course offer by the deadline set by the Admissions Service.

Obtain a student visa for study in the UK.
Prior Study & Residency Requirements

Must not already hold a qualification that is equivalent to or higher than the Master’s course you are applying for.

Must not have previously studied outside of your home country.

Must be a national of, or permanently domiciled in, a Low or Lower Middle-Income Country as classified by the World Bank in 2025 (see the full list of eligible countries in the application page).
Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust Master’s Scholarships: Duration and Benefits
Each scholarship provides:

Full Tuition Fee Waiver – Covers the complete cost of tuition.

£12,500 Maintenance Stipend – To support living expenses during the study period.
How to Apply for the Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust Master’s Scholarships 2025 (Step-by-Step Guide)
Follow these steps to apply for the Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust Master’s Scholarships:
Secure an Offer – You must hold an offer for one of the eligible postgraduate courses (listed above) starting in September 2025 at the University of Sheffield. Note: It may take up to 24 hours after receiving your offer before you can access the application form.
Access the Application Form – Once you have an offer, log in to MUSE for Offer Holders to submit your scholarship application.
Application Deadline – Submit your application by 1 PM (UK time) on Monday, June 2, 2025.
Notification of Outcome – All eligible applicants who apply before the deadline will be informed of the result by Friday, July 18, 2025.
