Applications are now open for the University of Freiburg DAAD EPOS Scholarship 2026. This prestigious, fully funded scholarship covers:

Funded by the German Government, the DAAD EPOS Scholarship is designed to support young professionals from developing countries who are committed to contributing to sustainable development in their home countries.
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) has recognized the Master’s in Environmental Governance (MEG) programme at the University of Freiburg as a development-related postgraduate course. Therefore, a limited number of EPOS Scholarships are available for MEG applicants.
Selection Process

First, candidates are shortlisted by the MEG programme committee.

In the second stage, DAAD will review the selected candidates and make the final decision.
Eligibility Criteria for University of Freiburg DAAD EPOS Scholarship 2026
To be considered for the DAAD EPOS Scholarship 2026 at the University of Freiburg, applicants must:

Hold an academic degree earned within the last six years (as of October 2025).

Have a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience (post-Bachelor’s, at the time of application).
Note: Internships and voluntary work do not count. Employment in academia (e.g., teaching, university research) is generally not considered relevant for this scholarship, except in rare, exceptional cases.

Possess an above-average academic record (typically ranked in the upper third of your graduating class).

Have not lived in Germany for more than 15 months prior to applying.
Scholarship Benefits
Successful applicants for the University of Freiburg DAAD EPOS Scholarship will receive:

€992 for Master's students

€1,300 for doctoral candidates

Coverage for health, accident, and personal liability insurance
-
A travel allowance (unless these costs are covered by your home country or another funding source)

Motivation letter (detailing your academic, professional, and personal reasons for applying)

Letter of recommendation from your current employer (must be on official letterhead, signed, stamped, and dated)

Certificates of Employment showing at least two years of relevant work experience after your Bachelor's degree

Proof of language skills (recent test scores)

Copies of your higher education certificates (with certified translations if not in German or English)

Copy of your full transcript of records
