About the Fellowship
The successful Fellow will be employed by Durham University for the duration of the program and will spend time on placement at the Reuters newsroom in London, or with another approved Reuters partner.
This prestigious fellowship is named in honor of Sir Harry Evans, a trailblazer in modern investigative journalism. It is designed to help journalists develop in-depth, fact-based reporting, supported by mentorship from top Reuters editors and access to academic resources and research at Durham University.
Who Can Apply?
To be considered for the 2026 Durham University Global Fellowship, applicants must:
- Be early in their journalism careers with professional experience in the field.
- Candidates not currently working as journalists may also be considered if they’ve contributed to investigative work in related fields (e.g., human rights reporting, authorship of investigative publications, documentary production, etc.).
- Submit their application following the specified format and instructions.
Fellowship Benefits
Successful applicants will receive:
- A monthly salary of approximately £4,444 (pro-rata equivalent of £53,333 per year).
- A living stipend of up to £1,250 per month.
- A one-time travel and relocation allowance of £1,800.
- Access to Durham University’s academic community, departments, and research institutes.
- An academic supervisor and mentor from the university.
- Where applicable, up to £12,000 can be paid to an applicant's current employer to support temporary staffing during the Fellowship period (subject to terms).
