The West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) has officially opened applications for its Master’s Programme in Energy and Green Hydrogen (IMP-EGH) for the 2025/2026 academic year. The program is available in all 15 ECOWAS countries.
About the WASCAL Scholarship
The WASCAL Scholarship is open to students from 12 West African countries, reinforcing efforts to equip the next generation of climate and energy leaders in the region.
The International Master’s Programme in Energy and Green Hydrogen (IMP-EGH) is a pioneering initiative in West Africa, designed to train future professionals to tackle energy challenges, climate change adaptation, and resilience strategies.
With the support of the German Government, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), and renowned German universities, the program offers outstanding scholarship opportunities to eligible students.
Eligibility Requirements for the German Government WASCAL Scholarship 2025
To be eligible for the German Government WASCAL Scholarship 2025, applicants must:

Be a citizen of a West African country, including Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo.

Citizens of other ECOWAS member countries may apply as self-funded students, subject to availability.

Hold a Bachelor's degree (Second Class Upper or equivalent) in a relevant field.

Have at least an intermediate level of English proficiency.
Scholarship Benefits
Selected candidates will receive:

A monthly stipend covering accommodation and living expenses.

Full payment of university tuition fees.

Round-trip airfare tickets.

Accommodation during the program.

Travel support for research in selected West African countries and Germany.

Research budget to support academic work.

Applicants must submit the following documents:

Curriculum Vitae (CV).

WASSCE or SSCE Certificate (for applicants from Anglophone countries).

Two recommendation letters from professors or senior researchers.

Copy of a valid identity document.

Copy of passport photo page.

Motivation letter (maximum 2 pages).

Copy of university degree certificate.

Proof of English proficiency (certificate or self-assessment statement).

Proof of relevant professional experience (if applicable).

Written commitment to pay a €30 registration fee upon admission.
