Applications Open for the 2025 Grooming Centre University Grant

The Grooming Centre University Grant is currently accepting applications from qualified undergraduate and postgraduate students enrolled in Nigerian tertiary institutions. For the 2025 academic year, a total of ₦20 million will be disbursed to 100 undergraduate and 50 postgraduate students whose research aligns with the program's thematic focus.

This initiative, now in its third edition, is spearheaded by the Grooming People for Better Livelihood Centre (Grooming Centre)—a leading microfinance institution in Nigeria. The program aims to foster research and knowledge development in key areas that contribute to sustainable development and poverty reduction in Nigeria.

Focus Areas for the Grant

The grant supports academic research that is relevant, practical, and innovative in the following fields:

Microfinance
Rural Development
Inclusive Finance
Social Enterprise
Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)
Women in Development
Technological Innovation
Financial Inclusion

Any other topic geared toward improving livelihoods and reducing poverty in Nigeria

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Grooming Centre University Grant, applicants must:

Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate program at a NUC- or NBTE-accredited Nigerian university or polytechnic.
Have a research topic focused on one or more of the listed thematic areas.
Ensure their research is relevant to the Nigerian context, demonstrates originality and critical thinking, and incorporates data-driven analysis.
Submit a written and signed recommendation letter from their project supervisor.
There are no restrictions based on age, gender, religion, or ethnicity.

Grant Value and Distribution

Successful candidates will receive:

₦100,000 for undergraduate students
₦200,000 for postgraduate students
A total of 150 awards will be given: 100 to undergraduates and 50 to postgraduates

A 10–15 page research concept including:

Introduction
Literature Review
Research Methodology
References
A one-page personal profile of the candidate

A final soft copy of the research project upon completion (see abstract guidelines for details)
