University of Pretoria Mastercard Scholarship 2025/26 for African Students
The University of Pretoria has announced the opening of applications for the 2025/26 Mastercard Scholarship for qualified African students wishing to study in South Africa.
The Mastercard Foundation is offering a full scholarship to students who have been admitted to a postgraduate programme at the University of Pretoria. This scholarship will cover full tuition fees, accommodation, meals, a laptop, and living stipends for successful candidates throughout the duration of their Master’s programme.
In partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, the University of Pretoria is providing scholarships for high-achieving African students who are interested in pursuing postgraduate studies starting in 2025.
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program (MCFSP) offers comprehensive support to students who have been provisionally admitted to a postgraduate programme at UP. Upon completing their studies, graduates are required to return to their home countries and contribute to their communities.
Program Objectives
The MCFSP aims to support academically talented, yet economically disadvantaged students from Africa, with a focus on those who will actively contribute to the transformation of the continent.
Recipients of the Mastercard Scholarship at the University of Pretoria are expected to apply the knowledge, skills, and leadership they gain to make a meaningful impact in their communities.
Mastercard Scholarship at the University of Pretoria Requirements
To be considered for the Mastercard Scholarship at the University of Pretoria, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a citizen of an African country.
- Come from an economically disadvantaged background and demonstrate financial need.
- Show leadership potential and be actively involved in a community service project (e.g., school, church, or local community initiatives).
- Maintain academic excellence and a high academic average throughout the course of study.

- Faculty of Humanities (for entry into the BPolSci, Political Studies or International Studies)
- Faculty of Law (Undergraduate: SADC countries, Postgraduate: All African countries)
- Faculty of Education
- Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment & Information Technology (EBIT)
