Osaka University MEXT Scholarship 2026 (Fully Funded in Japan)
The Government of Japan, through the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), is offering fully funded scholarships to international students who wish to pursue Master's or PhD degrees at Osaka University.
The Osaka University MEXT Scholarship—particularly within the field of Engineering—is designed to support outstanding international students by covering full tuition, providing a monthly stipend, and facilitating research collaboration with Japanese universities, industries, and government institutions.
Osaka University accepts MEXT scholars at both undergraduate and graduate levels under two main categories: Embassy Recommendation and University Recommendation.
Eligibility Criteria for Osaka University MEXT Scholarship 2026
For Undergraduate Applicants:
- Must be a citizen of a country with diplomatic relations with Japan.
- Must pass the entrance examination for the eligible undergraduate programs at Osaka University.
- Embassy Recommendation candidates are required to complete a one-year Japanese language preparatory course prior to admission.
For Graduate Applicants (Master's or PhD):
- Must possess a relevant bachelor's or master's degree before arriving in Japan.
- Must pass the screening conducted by the Japanese Embassy or Consulate in their home country.
- Must obtain a Letter of Acceptance from Osaka University after the embassy’s initial screening.
- Japanese language training may be provided before admission if necessary.

How to Apply for the Osaka University MEXT Scholarship (2026)
There are two application routes for the MEXT Scholarship:
Embassy Recommendation
- Applicants must apply through the Japanese embassy or consulate in their home country. Successful candidates must then request a Letter of Acceptance from Osaka University.
University Recommendation
- Applicants are nominated by Osaka University after being screened based on academic performance and research potential.
