Fully Funded MEXT Scholarship – IGP Special Quota at Hokkaido University (October 2026 Intake)

Applications are now open for the prestigious MEXT Scholarship (IGP Special Quota) at Hokkaido University, Japan. This is a fully funded opportunity for outstanding international students to pursue a 2-year research-based Master’s degree in Biosystems Science.

Part of the International Graduate Program (IGP), this scholarship is funded by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) and is exclusively available for the October 2026 intake.

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible, applicants must:

Be nationals of countries with diplomatic relations with Japan
Hold (or expect to hold) a Bachelor’s degree by October 2026
Be under 35 years old as of April 1, 2026
Show strong academic and research potential
Be proficient in English
Be in good health

Selection Process

Identify a research lab at Hokkaido University
Contact a professor and receive their consent to supervise your study
Submit required documents to the professor
The professor forwards your application to the IGP Office
Department conducts a screening and nomination process
Final selection is made by MEXT
