Applications are invited for a four-year fully funded PhD studentship at the attention and cognitive control laboratory headed by Prof Nilli Lavie at UCL, Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience. The PhD research is funded by the Ministry of Defence- Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL), with the aim to establish individual differences in capacity for perceptual processing, visual detection and short-term memory for visual information both in the wide public and in defence operators; and investigate training programs to improve these capacities.
The PhD research would use behavioural attention and perception experiments, and training methods accompanied with an MRI technique of Voxel-Based Morphometry that has proved successful in discovering structural brain changes that mediate individual differences in various cognitive functions.
