The Department of Computer Science at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Germany, invites applications for two PhD or Postdoctoral Positions. We seek candidates who will carry out research in the project "Integrative data management and processing". This project is jointly carried out by Jena University Hospital and Friedrich Schiller University Jena within the framework of the newly established Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) "High-end light microscopy elucidates membrane receptor function (ReceptorLight)". The CRC ReceptorLight is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and consists of around 20 research projects from various institutions located in Jena and Wuerzburg. It will apply and develop light microscopy techniques with highest resolutions in space and time. The volume of the resulting data sets will be large. Currently, we expect to record multi-petabyte data. In addition to the sheer size, the research activities will also need to focus on the variety of data. Successful candidates will be expected to design, implement, and deploy a CRC-wide data management platform and conduct research in management and analysis of big data in that application area. Requirements: Salary is based on the German collective agreement for public service (TV-L E13, fulltime). Both positions are available for up to four years starting August 1, 2015 or later.
