Apply Now: GREEN-STEM Scholarships for Women in Africa
The GREEN-STEM scholarship program aims to empower up to 92 female students and staff by supporting intra-Africa academic and research mobility across leading partner institutions. Scholarship opportunities range from short-term exchanges to full-degree programs.
This initiative is a collaboration between:
- University of Nairobi (Kenya)
- University of Rwanda (Rwanda)
- University of Lagos (Nigeria)
- University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa)
Important: Applicants must apply to a host university that is not their home university or the institution from which they graduated.
Eligibility Criteria
- This call is open exclusively to women.
Target Group 1:
- Women of African nationality, residing in an African country.
- Must be currently enrolled, admitted, or hold a degree from one of the GREEN-STEM partner universities:
- University of Nairobi
- University of Rwanda
- University of Lagos
- University of the Witwatersrand
Target Group 2:
- Women of African nationality, residing in Africa.
- Must be affiliated with Carnegie Mellon University Africa (Rwanda) or American University in Cairo (Egypt)—members of the AFRETEC network.
Women with special needs or requiring specific support are encouraged to apply and will receive assistance during their mobility.

- Total awards this year: 6
- 4 Master’s scholarships
- 2 Doctoral scholarships
Scholarship Benefits
Master’s Degree (22 months)
- Monthly stipend: €890
- Tuition fees waived
- Application fees, visa, and insurance contributions covered
- Travel expenses: Covered by the grantee
- 4 scholarships per partner university expected
Doctoral Degree (36 months)
- Monthly stipend: €1,230
- Tuition fees waived
- Application fees, visa, and insurance contributions covered
- Travel expenses: Covered by the grantee
- 2 scholarships per partner university expected
How to Apply
- Applications must be submitted through the GREEN-STEM online application portal. Be sure to:
- Choose a host university different from your current or previous institution.
- Prepare your supporting documents (degree certificates, academic transcripts, proof of nationality/residency, etc.).
- Submit your complete application before the deadline.
- Stay tuned for the official application link and deadline details from your university’s international office or GREEN-STEM’s official website.
