2026 University of Manchester Equity and Merit Scholarship
The University of Manchester is now accepting applications for the 2026 Equity and Merit Scholarship, an opportunity designed for outstanding international students from selected developing countries. The Equity and Merit Scholarship covers full tuition fees for all recipients. For those selected to study on-campus in Manchester, the award also includes return international airfare, visa costs, and living expenses.
The scholarship is offered in partnership with the University’s Global Development Institute (GDI)—a world-renowned center for research and teaching focused on global inequality and development. Eligible Countries
Applicants must be residents and citizens of one of the following countries:
- Ethiopia, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, or Zimbabwe.
Eligibility Criteria for the 2026 Equity and Merit Scholarship
To qualify, applicants must:
- Hold an offer to study a Master’s degree at the University of Manchester (specifically within the Global Development Institute).
- Be a resident citizen of Ethiopia, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, or Zimbabwe and have not previously studied outside Africa (short training courses of six months or less are exempt).
- Have a minimum of two years of professional experience relevant to the intended course of study (unpaid internships and volunteer work are not considered).
- Hold a bachelor’s degree awarded before September 2023 with an overall excellent academic standing (typically the top 10% of the class).
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to returning home after studies and a clear potential to drive positive change in their home country.
- Clearly articulate how a degree from the University of Manchester will benefit their career and contribute to their community’s development.

The 2026 Equity and Merit Scholarship provides:
