The Bright Futures Scholarship program offers two awards: the Florida Academic Scholar (FAS) and the Florida Medallion Scholar (FMS), available to eligible students.
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for the Bright Futures Scholarship program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Be a Florida resident and a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen, as determined by the student’s postsecondary institution.

Submit the FFAA by August 31 after high school graduation.

Earn a standard Florida high school diploma, or its equivalent, from a Florida public high school or a registered Florida Department of Education (FDOE) private high school, or complete a home education program.

Not have been convicted of, or pled nolo contendere to, a felony charge unless clemency has been granted by the Governor and Cabinet.

Be accepted by, and enroll in, a degree or certificate program at an eligible Florida public or independent postsecondary institution.

Be enrolled for at least six non-remedial semester credit hours (or the equivalent in quarter or clock hours) per term.

If not funded in the academic year immediately following high school graduation, apply for reinstatement within five years of high school graduation. (Refer to the Reinstatement Requirements section in Chapter 3 for more information.)

Students who enlist in the military or engage in full-time religious or service obligations after graduation may be eligible for deferment. (See the Deferment of the Scholarship section at the end of the chapter.)
Specific Requirements for Scholarships
Florida high school students must meet the following requirements to qualify for the Florida Academic Scholars (FAS) or Florida Medallion Scholars (FMS) awards:

Graduate from a Florida public high school with a standard Florida high school diploma, a registered Florida Department of Education private high school, or complete a home education program.

Complete the required high school coursework.

Achieve the required minimum high school GPA.

Score the required minimum on the ACT, CLT, or SAT college entrance exam by August 31 of the high school graduation year.

Complete the required 100 hours of volunteer service, paid work, or a combination of both.

Submit the FFAA by August 31 after high school graduation.
Benefits of the Award
Florida Academic Scholars (FAS):

Receive an award to cover 100% of tuition and applicable fees when attending a public postsecondary institution.

For nonpublic institutions, students will receive a comparable amount as outlined in the Private Award Chart.

FAS students are eligible to receive the award during the summer sessions to cover tuition and applicable fees.
Florida Medallion Scholars (FMS):
-
Receive an award to cover 75% of tuition and applicable fees when attending a public postsecondary institution.

For nonpublic institutions, students will receive a comparable amount as outlined in the Private Award Chart.

FMS students are eligible to receive the award during the summer sessions to cover tuition and applicable fees.

Starting in fall 2021, students enrolled in an associate degree program at a Florida College System institution will receive 100% coverage for tuition and applicable fees.
Duration of the Award

FAS and FMS students can receive funding for up to five years from high school graduation, covering a maximum of 120 semester hours (or equivalent) towards a certificate or first baccalaureate degree.

This also applies to students in 3/2 programs who are classified as undergraduates.

If the program requires more than 120 hours, extended funding is available for FAS and FMS students by submitting the "Extended Hours Application".
How to Apply
Students must APPLY for the scholarship by submitting the Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA) no later than August 31 after high school graduation.
