University of Auckland International Student Excellence Scholarship
The University of Auckland International Student Excellence Scholarship offers an outstanding opportunity for high-achieving international students to receive up to NZD $10,000 toward their compulsory tuition fees for undergraduate or postgraduate study. Applications are currently open for students starting in Semester One 2026, Quarter One 2026, or Quarter Two 2026, with a deadline of 23 October 2025.
About the Scholarship
Established in 2016, this scholarship aims to attract talented international students to Waipapa Taumata Rau – the University of Auckland. It supports new international applicants enrolling in a full-time program of at least one year in either undergraduate or postgraduate studies.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be an international student (not a citizen, permanent resident, or resident visa holder of New Zealand or Australia).
- Be a new student with either a conditional or unconditional offer of admission to the University of Auckland.
- Students from the English Language Academy (ELA) with a conditional or unconditional offer are also eligible.
- Students enrolling in the Summer Start International program with a valid offer may apply.
- Be enrolling full-time in:
- An undergraduate degree (based on overseas qualifications),
- A Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip), or
- A Master’s degree, including specific Engineering master’s programs.
Selection Process
- Applications must be submitted through the University of Auckland Scholarships Office.
- A Selection Committee will assess all applications.
- Final decisions are made by the University of Auckland Council, based on the committee’s recommendations.

- Open to international students from all countries.
Scholarship Value
- Up to NZD $10,000 toward compulsory tuition fees for one year of study.
Duration
- The scholarship covers one academic year.
