SBW Berlin assists scholarship recipients in achieving their professional goals by facilitating networking opportunities with other organizations and providing guidance on job preparation.
Additionally, all social non-profit projects developed through the program should maintain a strong connection to the recipients' home countries.
DAAD SBW Berlin Scholarship Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the DAAD SBW Berlin Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Age Requirement: Must be between 18 and 30 years old.
- Professional or Volunteer Experience: Should have experience in the non-profit sector.
- Commitment to Home Country: Must intend to work in their country of origin for at least 18 months after graduation.
- Financial Need: Must demonstrate a relatively low net income.
- Family Residency: Should not have first-degree family members who permanently reside in Germany.
- Residency in Germany: Must not have lived in Germany for more than 18 months before applying.
- Academic Performance: Should have an average grade equivalent to a German GPA of at least 2.0.
- Educational Status:
- Must apply before starting university education OR
- Be fully enrolled in the first, second, or at most third semester at a state-recognized university (in Germany or abroad) OR
- Apply for a master’s program shortly before or after completing a bachelor’s degree.

The SBW Berlin Scholarship provides comprehensive financial support to cover the essential living expenses of recipients. The full scholarship includes:
- Accommodation: A room in shared student flats in Berlin.
- Living Allowance: €6,600 per year to cover daily expenses.
- Tuition Fees: Full coverage of university tuition costs.
- Travel Support: A possible travel allowance for the journey to Berlin before the start of studies and for the return trip after graduation.
The scholarship is granted for a minimum of 30 days and can extend up to 48 months, depending on the standard duration of the chosen academic program.

Mandatory Documents

A nonprofit organization must submit a letter of recommendation on behalf of the applicant.

- Application Review & Access
After reviewing the recommendation letter, outstanding candidates will receive access to the application form.
- Complete and Submit the Application
Selected applicants can then complete the application form and upload all required documents.
- Selection Process
- Phase One: Initial screening based on the curriculum vitae, letter of motivation, and academic grades.
