The Imperial College President’s Scholarships offer up to 50 outstanding international students the chance to pursue research in their chosen field under the guidance of a distinguished supervisor.
If you are a high-achieving undergraduate or master’s student with a strong ambition to pursue a PhD at a world-class research institution, you may be eligible for full tuition coverage and a generous stipend for a PhD position at Imperial College London.

Selection Process
Applications undergo a two-stage review:
- Departmental Review – Candidates who meet or are expected to meet the eligibility criteria will be assessed by their chosen department. Each department will shortlist the most outstanding applicants for further consideration.
- Imperial College Selection Panel Review – The final selection is made by the Imperial College Selection Panel, which includes the Vice-Provost (Research) and the Faculty Vice-Deans for Research. The panel evaluates shortlisted candidates from all faculties, awarding scholarships to those with the highest potential.
Scholarship Confirmation
Successful candidates will receive formal written confirmation of their scholarship. However, the PhD offer remains conditional upon a final departmental interview and, if applicable, the candidate achieving the required qualifications.
Eligibility Requirements for the 2025 Imperial College President’s Scholarship
To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Open to talented candidates from Imperial College London, the UK, and worldwide, with no restrictions on nationality.
- Applicants must be among the top achievers in their undergraduate cohort and either hold or be on track to receive a first-class UK degree or an equivalent qualification.
- Candidates with a standalone master’s degree must have achieved a distinction or provide evidence of high performance leading to a distinction.
- Applicants with an integrated master’s degree (e.g., MEng, MSci, M.Math) are assessed based on their undergraduate qualifications for eligibility.
- Candidates with multiple standalone master’s qualifications must have achieved a distinction in the one most relevant to their proposed PhD study.
- Those with degrees from overseas institutions should verify that their academic scores meet the equivalent eligibility requirements.
- Before applying, candidates must secure a supervisor from an academic department at Imperial College London who has agreed to oversee their research project. Each supervisor can only mentor one scholar at a time under this scheme.
- Note: Currently enrolled Imperial College PhD students are not eligible for this scholarship. It is exclusively available for new PhD applicants.

Each of the 50 scholarships provides financial and academic support for up to 3.5 years, including:
- Full coverage of tuition fees
- Annual stipend of £25,150 (2024-25 rate) to support living costs
