The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT University) is now accepting applications for the 2026 Research Stipend Scholarship (RSS) from eligible and qualified candidates worldwide.
This prestigious scholarship covers full tuition, provides a living allowance of AUD $35,886 per year, and includes a relocation grant of up to AUD $1,540.
About the Scholarship
The RMIT Research Scholarships are funded by:
The Australian Government (through the Research Training Program – RTP), and
RMIT University itself.
When you apply, you’ll automatically be considered for all scholarships you’re eligible for under the program.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, applicants must:

Hold a bachelor’s degree with honours (typically 4 years of full-time study) in a relevant field

Have at least a credit average in the final year of study

OR hold a master’s degree with a research component making up at least 25% of a full academic year
-
OR be assessed by RMIT as having equivalent academic and research experience (including publications or work experience)

Not have completed a postgraduate research degree (e.g. Master by Research or PhD) at the same or higher level
-
Not have previously held an RMIT or Commonwealth-funded research scholarship (unless it was terminated within the first 6 months)
Scholarship Benefits
Stipend of AUD $35,886 per year (pro rata for part-time study)

Full tuition coverage through:

RTP International Tuition Fee Offset Scholarship (RIFOS), or
-
RMIT Research International Tuition Fee Scholarship (RRITFS)

Domestic students (AUS/NZ citizens or PR) receive an RTP Fee Offset — covering tuition fully

Relocation allowance:

Up to AUD $515 per adult

Up to AUD $255 per child

Total relocation support: up to AUD $1,540

Paid leave: includes sick leave, maternity leave, and parental leave
