The German Bundestag Scholarship is designed to equip African students with the skills and knowledge needed to actively contribute to the democratic development of their home countries.
Since 2020, the German Bundestag has been offering this scholarship to outstanding young university graduates from sub-Saharan Africa who have a strong interest in politics and governance.
This program is open to candidates who are passionate about the German parliamentary system and dedicated to upholding democratic values in their nations. It provides a unique opportunity for socially and politically engaged graduates from Southern, East, and West Africa.
Recipients of the scholarship will receive a €700 stipend, free accommodation, coverage for travel expenses, and comprehensive insurance, including health, accident, and liability coverage.
Eligibility Requirements for the 2026 German Bundestag Scholarship
To qualify for the German Bundestag Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Citizenship: Must be from Botswana, Namibia, or South Africa (Southern Africa); Kenya, Tanzania, or Uganda (East Africa); Ghana, Nigeria, or Senegal (West Africa).

Age: Must be under 30 years old as of January 1, 2026.

Education: Must have completed university studies.

Language: Proficiency in German at a minimum B2 level.

Commitment: A strong interest in political affairs and active involvement in social or political causes.
