Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Aga Khan Foundation Scholarship, applicants must:
- Have an outstanding academic record.
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree or possess equivalent professional training/experience.
- Demonstrate genuine financial need.
- Develop a well-structured, multi-source funding plan.
- Secure admission to a recognized postgraduate institution.
- Exhibit strong leadership potential, professional experience, extracurricular involvement, entrepreneurial achievements, and volunteer contributions.
Preference is given to young professionals under the age of 30.
Scholarship Benefits
- Covers tuition fees and living expenses only.
- Funding is provided for the first two years of study; students must secure additional funding thereafter.
- Priority is given to Master’s programs, but Ph.D. applications are also considered.
- Supports studies at local/regional universities and distance learning programs, provided the course maintains high quality.
- The scholarship is 50% grant and 50% loan—students must repay half of the funding to ensure the program’s continuity.
- The repayment period is five years, beginning six months after the funded study period ends.
Selection Process
- Applicants will undergo an interview with local Scholarship Committees, where they will be assessed on their financial situation, academic performance, extracurricular achievements, and career goals.
- The annual Scholarship Selection Meeting takes place in late June or early July, and applicants are notified of the results shortly thereafter.
How to Apply for the Aga Khan Foundation Scholarship
The application process for the Aga Khan Foundation’s International Scholarship Programme (AKF ISP) is decentralized. Follow these steps to apply:
- Obtain the Application Form – Forms are available starting January 1st at Aga Khan Education Services/Boards in your country of residence.
- Complete the Form Accurately – Fill out the application carefully and attach all required supporting documents.
- Submit Before the Deadline – Return the completed application to the agency from which it was obtained before the specified deadline.
