Applications are now open for the 2025 United Nations UNICORE Scholarship, offering African refugees the opportunity to pursue higher education at Italian universities.
The University Corridors for Refugees (UNICORE) 7.0 initiative is led by Italian Universities, in collaboration with UNHCR, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Caritas Italiana, Diaconia Valdese, Centro Astalli, and other key partners.
The UNICORE Scholarship aims to expand educational opportunities for refugees currently residing in Ethiopia, India, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, enabling them to further their studies in Italy.
Eligibility Requirements for the 2025 UNICORE Scholarship
To be eligible for the 2025 UNICORE Scholarship, applicants must:

Reside in one of the following countries: Ethiopia, India, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, or Zimbabwe.

Hold recognized refugee status in one of these countries in collaboration with UNHCR.

Possess a qualification valid for admission to a Second Cycle (Master’s) Degree Programme.

Have a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0, based on the country’s tertiary education grading system, or an equivalent according to the Italian Ministry of Education's comparable table.

Have earned a degree between 2020 and the application deadline (note: some universities may not impose a time limit on graduation—check individual application calls).

Meet the specific admission requirements for their chosen Master’s program.

Have never been enrolled in a degree program at any of the Partner Universities.

Demonstrate proficiency in English.
Benefits of the 2025 United Nations UNICORE Scholarship
Successful applicants will begin their Master’s degree program in September 2025 at one of 37 participating universities in Italy. The scholarship includes:

Full tuition fee exemption at participating Italian universities.

Financial assistance for visa-related expenses and airfare.

A study grant to support living costs in Italy.

Academic and personal guidance from UNICORE partners throughout the program.
