Established in 2015, the Vice-Chancellor’s International Excellence Scholarship aims to enhance educational opportunities, promote international engagement, and support outstanding international students enrolling in undergraduate or postgraduate programs at the University of Waikato.

Successful recipients will also have the opportunity to serve as global ambassadors for the University of Waikato.
Eligibility Requirements for the 2025 University of Waikato International Excellence Scholarship
To qualify for the University of Waikato International Excellence Scholarship, applicants must:

Apply for full-time enrollment in an undergraduate or postgraduate program as a new international student at the University of Waikato.

Hold a conditional or unconditional offer from the University, including pathway programs such as:

Certificate of Attainment in English Language
-
Certificate of Attainment in Foundation Studies
-
Certificate of University Preparation
-
International Diploma (Business or Computer Science)
-
Diploma of Postgraduate Preparation (Pre-Masters)
-
Have a minimum GPA equivalent to B+ in their qualifying academic credentials.

Not be currently enrolled at the University of Waikato in any undergraduate or postgraduate program.

Not have paid tuition fees at the time of application.
-
Not be sponsored by any external funding body.

Not be entering through a Guaranteed Credit Arrangement, a Study Abroad, or a Student Exchange Agreement.
Scholarship Benefits
Undergraduate Students:

Scholarships range from $2,500 to $15,000, applied as follows:
-
One-year program: Between $2,500 and $8,000 applied to first-year tuition.

Two-year program: Between $2,500 and $12,000, with a maximum of $8,000 in the first year and $4,000 in the second year.

Three-year program: Between $2,500 and $15,000, with a maximum of $8,000 in year one, $4,000 in year two, and $3,000 in year three.
Postgraduate Students:
Scholarships range from $2,500 to $15,000, which may be applied across one or more years of postgraduate study.
The scholarship amount will be directly deducted from the recipient’s tuition fees upon enrollment or once enrollment is finalized.
How to Apply for the University of Waikato International Excellence Scholarship
Follow these steps to apply for the University of Waikato International Excellence Scholarship:

Applications can be submitted at any time. Decisions are typically made within 8 to 12 weeks from the date of submission.

Applications received within 4 weeks of the start of any of the university’s three main trimesters (A, B, or C) may not be considered.
