Fully Funded Master’s Graduate Research Assistantships at the University of Guelph – Fall 2025 Intake
The Dry Bean Breeding & Computational Biology Lab at the University of Guelph, Canada, is now accepting applications from qualified postgraduate students for two fully funded Master’s Graduate Research Assistantship positions beginning in Fall 2025.
Successful applicants will receive comprehensive financial support, including full tuition coverage and a living stipend. In addition to academic training, students will gain hands-on experience and be well-prepared for future employment in government agencies, NGOs, and consulting firms.
About the Research
Hosted by the Department of Plant Agriculture, this cutting-edge research uses multi-omics approaches—such as genomics, epigenomics, and hyperspectral imaging—to investigate the mechanisms behind seed coat color stability and darkening in cranberry and pinto beans.
Seed coat darkening significantly affects the marketability, consumer acceptance, and storage quality of dry beans. The goal of the project is to identify genetic and epigenetic markers that can support the development of stable, non-darkening bean varieties.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the assistantship, applicants should have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Genetics, Plant Science, Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology, or a related field
- Interest or experience in plant genomics, epigenetics, and bioinformatics
- Familiarity with tools for genomic and methylome analysis, GWAS, and EWAS
- Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting
