Applications Open: Chevening Energy Market Reform Fellowship 2026
The UK Government is now inviting senior professionals from the energy sector to apply for the fully funded Chevening Energy Market Reform Fellowship 2026. This prestigious programme covers full tuition fees, living expenses for the duration of the fellowship, and return economy airfare to the UK.
The fellowship offers senior officials and energy sector professionals from China the opportunity to spend three months at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP), University of Dundee, as visiting Chevening Fellows.
Funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), the programme enables participants to undertake targeted research that supports the goals of the UK–China Energy Dialogue.
Programme Structure
- Fellows spend three months at the University of Dundee working on a specific research project agreed with a CEPMLP academic supervisor.
- Fellows have unrestricted access to classes, lectures, and seminars relevant to their research.
- Proposed research topics are discussed with a University of Dundee faculty member at the interview stage.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the Chevening Fellowship 2026, applicants must:
- Commit to adhering to all programme guidelines and expectations.
- Hold a postgraduate degree or equivalent professional training/experience in a relevant field.
- Have at least 5 years of meaningful professional experience (must be currently employed or a current PhD candidate – PhD cannot be with a UK/EU or USA university).
- Not hold British nationality (except for nationals exempt under Chevening Guidelines).
- Not be an employee, former employee, or relative* of an employee of His Majesty’s Government, British Council, a sponsoring UK university, or the Association of Commonwealth Universities within the last two years.
- Plan to return to China after the fellowship.

Additional Requirements
- Past recipients of an HMG-funded scholarship or fellowship may reapply only after five years and must demonstrate career progress since their last award.
- Employees, former employees, or relatives* of Chevening Partner organisations are eligible to apply, but if employed in the last two years, they cannot receive a Partner Award from that organisation.
- Relatives include parents, step-parents, siblings, step-siblings, children, step-children, spouses, civil partners, or partners in a marriage-like relationship of at least two years.
